Chancellor refusal to offer extra help to families an utter disgrace

Responding to reports that Chancellor Rishi Sunak blocked plans to increase the energy bill rebate, Liberal Democrat Climate Emergency and Energy Spokesperson Wera Hobhouse MP said: “It is an utter disgrace that the Chancellor is refusing to offer extra help to hard pressed families facing soaring energy bills.

Wera Hobhouse

“Hundreds of thousands of people are being condemned to fuel poverty through this government’s inaction.

“Their failed energy strategy will do nothing to bring energy bills now, while hammering families with higher costs in the future.

“We need a far more ambitious response to the energy crisis, including more support to help people with their bills and a massive insulation programme to make our homes greener and cheaper to heat.”
